Welcome! I understand that feeling overwhelmed, as if your head is full of "brain soup," can make it hard to function. You might excel in some areas, yet feel completely frozen in others. You feel hopelessness, numbness, confusion, and a sense that you're just not equipped to handle life. You might even feel like an alien—like it’s impossible for anyone to truly see and validate your experiences. This chronic feeling of confusion and invalidation can be even more complicated if you are LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, part of a religious minority, or from a multicultural blended family. If this resonates, I see you.
Using a trauma informed approach, our foundation is your sense of safety. We begin to put out the fire (providing relief) so you can feel more grounded for deeper work. We’ll do this through a strong relationship, gathering your resources, and developing new skills. I believe lasting healing starts with a solid foundation.
I also know that humor, creativity, and joy are essential components of building resilience. I welcome you to use expressive arts, movement, and fidgets to help you process during our sessions.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I believe in understanding my clients from a holistic, person-in-environment perspective. This means that together we can explore the multifaceted challenges you face, and recognize the interplay of internal struggles, your mind-body connection, family systems, intersecting identities, and experiences with systems of oppression. I strive to create a safe, affirming, and non-judgmental space for all my clients on their journey towards healing and resilience.
I'm guided by the 5 Principles of Trauma-Informed Care: Safety, Choice, Collaboration, Trustworthiness, and Empowerment. My style is eclectic as I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including strengths-based therapy, psychoeducation, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills training, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I'll tailor my approach to your individual needs and preferences.
We might be a good fit if:
● You're feeling overwhelmed or impacted by current events.
● You appreciate knowing a bit about your therapist's experiences when you ask.
● You're interested in exploring how your identity (LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, etc.) intersects with your experiences and well-being.
● You're curious about the connection between your brain and your emotions.
● You appreciate occasional ideas of activities you can practice in-between sessions
● You're seeking a balance between self-acceptance and personal growth.
It takes immense courage and energy to seek support, especially when you're already struggling. If you felt a connection to anything in my profile, please reach out so we can connect and start your next chapter.
