`My name is Jennifer, I am a therapist licensed in North Carolina, Florida (telehealth) and Maine. As a cognitive behavioral, solution-focused therapist, I am here to provide a therapeutic, nonjudgmental, safe space for you to unlock your potential by examining and assisting you resolve the life challenges that may be holding you back. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better to understand how they maybe impacting you now. I believe strongly that a trusting, authentic relationship between therapist and client is the key component to therapeutic growth. This relationship, along with evidenced based practices and therapeutic techniques, is what will drive change.
I practice person centered therapy through a trauma informed lens while employing “unconditional positive regard.” Simply put, I am here to understand, appreciate and value you, your life journey and what has led you to where you are now. I believe strongly that we all are the experts of our lives, but can become overwhelmed, confused, and disoriented at times. I strive to and do my level best to be culturally sensitive, cognizant and honor the differences in us all. I have a particular interest in the LGBTQIA community and spent the beginning of my professional clinical career living in New York City working with transgender youth. In addition, I have a special appreciation for single parents as well as parents in a co-parenting relationship. As a Child custody mediator for over 14 years, I have assisted families in dealing with the inherent difficulties and transitions of divorcing parents; as well as assisting parents in navigating unhealthy or toxic co-parenting relationships.
I am currently living in Charlotte, NC and am a single mother of twin nine-year-old boys. In addition, our family has two fur babies that mean the world to us. Being a busy single mom I can certainly understand the unexpected twists and turns that life has to offer. I am a Navy brat (child of a navy parent) I spent my child moving every three years, as such I have an immense appreciation for learning to live and thrive in situations that maybe out of your control. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in 1995 at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC; and double majored in Political Science and Criminal Justice. I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and became a licensed therapist in 2003. I am very passionate about ongoing personal growth; I challenging myself to “step out of my comfort zone” to learn all that I can about the world around me. I absolutely love to travel and believe that is one of the best ways to expand your horizons. It would be a privileged to work with you and support your personal growth. I look forward to meeting and learning about you, and what makes you uniquely special.
